Sinus lift and bone augmentation

Bone grafting and sinus lifting is a very common procedure.

Bone loss and gum reduction will occur where teeth have been extracted. Over a long period of time there can be considerable reduction.

Bone graft is also used if the patient has had any chronic inflammation on the top of the root or if there has been anĀ abscess or cyst in the bone which caused bone erosion. Then the inflammation is excochleated and the bone graft is placed

Synthetic bone granulate, Biogran and Ca-tri-phosphate based bone granulate, are the medium used.

It depends on the individual patient’s case but usually after the bone-graft the patient waits a minimum of 6 months for the bone-regeneration and then the implant is placed.

If there is a small defect in the bone then the bone graft and implant can placed at the same time and again it heals for at least 6 months. After the healing time the superstructure and the crown are placed.

The upper lateral incisors usually do not need any bone augmentation because the height of the bone is usually satisfactory as is the thickness of the bone. .
